Free Sketch Pattern- Rectangular Rhythm

Hello, creative friends!

Today, I’m so excited to share my latest scrapbook layout featuring the Rectangular Rhythm sketch. If you’ve ever been stuck in a creative rut or felt limited by how certain supplies are “labeled,” I hope this layout inspires you to look at your stash in a whole new way.

For this project, I combined the Timeless Plaid 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper with the adorable (and somewhat unexpected!) Terrific Toadstools Bundle. While the toadstools stamp set is often thought of as “feminine,” I decided to challenge myself and use it to create a layout for some of my favorite family outdoor photos—and I love how it turned out!

Why I Love This Layout

  1. The Sketch – Rectangular Rhythm
This sketch is a game-changer for scrapbookers! The 12 rectangular spaces gave me the perfect structure to showcase multiple photos while still leaving room for decorative elements, journaling, and pops of color. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced scrapbooker, this layout is simple yet striking and works beautifully for any theme.
  2. Masculine Meets Whimsy
Masculine layouts can sometimes feel tricky, but the Timeless Plaid DSP set the perfect foundation. The mix of earthy tones and classic patterns paired wonderfully with my outdoor photos. Adding the Terrific Toadstools stamps and dies brought a touch of whimsy, proving that stamps don’t have to stick to their “intended” theme. With the right paper and embellishments, even a “feminine” stamp set can shine in a totally different way!
  3. Versatility and Creativity
I loved pushing my creativity with this layout. It’s a reminder to look beyond labels and consider how different elements can work together to tell your story. The toadstools added a fun, natural vibe that perfectly complemented the woodsy feel of the photos, and the plaid paper tied everything together.

Tips for Using the Rectangular Rhythm Sketch

  • Mix Photos and Patterns: Alternate between photos and patterned paper for balance. This is especially great for using up those smaller DSP scraps!
  • Layer for Depth: Add dimension by layering die cuts, stamping, and embellishments on top of the squares. For this layout, I added stamped toadstools and little touches of greenery for extra flair.
  • Keep Journaling Simple: The smaller rectangular spaces are perfect for adding just a sentence or two about your photos.

Final Thoughts

This project reminded me how fun it is to break the “rules” of crafting and challenge myself to see my supplies in a new light. The combination of masculine papers, outdoor photos, and a whimsical stamp set created a layout that’s uniquely mine, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

If you’ve been wanting to try something new, I highly recommend giving the Rectangular Rhythm sketch a try! Whether you use it for holiday photos, family moments, or everyday adventures, it’s sure to inspire.
